The World Bank, Ghana Office in partnership with Centre for Development Partnerships (CDP) invites applications from eligible organizations for its 2009 Civil Society Fund.

About the programme
The Civil Society Fund focuses on civic engagement for the empowerment of marginalized and vulnerable groups. Its purpose is to support the empowerment of citizens to have greater ownership of development processes, and promote inclusive and equitable development.

Who can apply?
Civil society organizations in good standing based in Ghana and working on development issues can apply. The Civil Society Fund is able to fund only a very small percentage of the requests it receives as demand far exceeds the funds available.

What sorts of activities are supported?
Activities related to civic engagements such as the promotion of dialogue and the dissemination of information and enhancement of partnerships with key players in the development process. They may include workshops, seminars, costs of publications and innovative networking efforts.

Which activities are not supported?
Research programmes, formal academic training, operational projects, institutional support (including capital equipment), scholarships, and individuals applying on their own behalf.

What size of grants will be awarded this year?
This year selected organizations will receive a grant of not more than GHc15,000.
